Having settled into Uniform Year it seems appropriate to begin investigations into people’s reactions to the project. One of the most fruitful places to collect thoughts and feelings on Uniform Year is at Klara Kelvy’s workplace, a busy inner-city cafe.
(Last Tuesday True Estate had it’s first exhibition at The Alderman. Open House was a group show about living as an artist. A photograph from Kay Abude and Klara Klevy’s collaborative project Documentation of Uniform Year is in the show.)
Andrew, who had not yet seen the photographic work gave the following feedback (paraphrased from some quick notes taken while taking his coffee order):
The image was similar to those one sees in National Geographic, of people with blankets spread on the roadside, selling goods they have made or grown. The colours, of the red background, with the blue and white were evocative of life in space or another planet. The action documented seemed to express the solitariness of the endeavour.
